Trigger

A trigger is a short control signal used in modular synthesis to initiate an event. Unlike gates, triggers are very brief, often lasting less than 10 milliseconds. Triggers are used to start an event or action but do not sustain the signal. For example, a trigger can be used to initiate the attack phase of an AD (Attack-Decay) envelope, where the length of the trigger does not affect the envelope’s decay phase. Triggers are useful when you need a quick, momentary signal to start an event without requiring a sustained high voltage.
