Envelope generator

An envelope generator is a module that controls the evolution of a sound’s shape over time. The most common type has four stages: attack, decay, sustain, and release (ADSR). Attack is the initial sound build-up, decay is the volume decrease after the peak, sustain is the steady volume, and release is the fade-out after key release. Envelopes are used to control amplitude (volume), frequency (with filters), or pitch in various applications. There are varying combinations of stage parameters, such as D, AD, AR, ASR, ADSR, AHDSR and so many more.
